Lucas was raised by his mother, Karen Roe, while his uncle Keith acted as his father figure. His mother did her best to protect him from his biological father Dan Scott, even to the point of omiting the fact that Dan had asked for joint custody. By doing so she gave him what would be the best life possible, and the only childhood he knew, instead of risking the man that once wanted her to have an abortion possibly ruin it for her son.
When Lucas was eight he became friends with a boy that would later be better known as Skills. What they had in common was the love of basketball. Like the young boys they were they dreamed of becoming basketball stars one day, both signing a basketball that would later become a reminder of that dream that they shared. With time they added more friends to their group that share the love of basketball, forming the group better known as the rivercourt guys. They played games at the rivercourt on a regular basis for the fun and love of the game and had their built in commentators.
At about age eight of nine Lucas and Haley became best friends since she was from a big family and felt that since it was only him and his mom, that they need her more. The two of them up to more recently have been rather inseperable. However, that all seemed to change for a while when she started spending time tutoring and dating Nathan. In the end a friendship of sorts budded for the half brothers thanks to help from pressures from such sources as Haley and Whitey, along with their rather mutual feelings towards Dan.
While Haley was off with Nathan Lucas was busy digging a hole of his own when it came to two other best friends, Brooke and Peyton. He had a crush on Peyton for a good while before finally feeling like he had a chance with her, but the timing just never seemed right. It was always either one of the them being scared to let the other one in and hiding or when he was seeing Brooke that they seemed to go to one another to express how they felt, creating a scenario that left him cheating on Brooke and eventually loosing both of them. Although his one night stand with Nicki, Jake's ex and Jenny's mother, did not help his case any.
Jake was Lucas' first friend on the basketball team after he joined, while the others still had sided with Nathan. He served as a voice of reason and guidance while Lucas struggled to deal with what being a Scott and being a part of the team meant in Dan Scott's world. As Lucas loves reading Jake lent him Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand as a sort of lesson on how to fight and not let others win and keep you down.
Haley and Lucas have had their share of fights about their love lives. First Lucas being angry with Haley over seeing Nathan behind his back. Then Haley when she found out Lucas was sneaking around behind Brooke's back with Peyton. Both times they have over come and have reclaimed their friendship. Now they can only hope that it will stay just as strong when they are living hours away from each other.
To Branson him and Keith go while leaving what little they seem to leave behind. For Lucas it is about starting over, trying to take advantage of having a 'clean slate' once again, and where he can be away from Dan. While his uncle's motivation has to do with a love and business lost due to his own mistakes, along with the bonus incentive of getting a well needed brake from his younger brother Dan.
