The idea that he doesn't really know which of them were the oldest was a little odd to her but she wasn't going to make a big deal out of it of course. It wasn't her business anyway. So Haley just nodded her head some. "I see. Well it is no big deal. I was just curious." It wasn't an extremely bad thing that he didn't know, just odd because twins usually learned that first thing and always recalled it for whenever someone asked them about the age difference.
Haley nodded her head about being the youngest out of all her siblings. "Yup. I would be the youngest out of all of them. The sister before me is only like a year older or so. Not much of a big gap or anything. It's not particularly easy to come from such a huge family sometimes." That was the truth. When there had been more than three or four siblings living under the same roof it was really chaotic sometimes and a big annoying.
"There is nothing wrong with being shy though. Honestly sometimes it keeps you from unnecessary pain in your life. Then again though, other times if you are too shy though, then you hurt your own self by not being able to get out and do the meet and greet thing. Obviously you were brave enough to speak to me first so perhaps you don't have that problem then." Haley smiled at Josh.

Josh still had a hard time imagining how living in a big family would be, but he really did not want to know either. It was hard enough for him to live day to day with the size of his family at times. Just the same he focused on what she said about being shy. "Being brave is just half of the battle," he told her with a smile on her face. JJ was starting to like her a bit more now. Mainly, because he found that she seemed to be sincere when she was not busy being distracted by thoughts about other things. "At least for me."
He had finished his first sandwich and had started eating the second one. The egg salad sandwich tasted really good to him right at the moment. Josh stopped to think for a minute before talking. It had crossed his mind that she probably knew of at least one place around town to go out to eat at. "So umm... when you don't eat at here or home where do you like to go out and eat at?" Part of him was curious if it would be some kind of chain restaurant. Although he was hoping that it would not be just because Josh wanted to go and try somewhere different for a change. Food from a place that he could not find just anywhere.

"You are right. It is just half the battle. Honestly though I think you are going to do just fine here in Tree Hill. It's not a bad place and there are some really good people here. Just give you a heads up on a couple. Dan Scott, avoid him like he has the plague. He's not a great guy. Keith Scott, on the other hand, is a great guy. Nathan Scott is Dan's son and Nathan is on the basketball team here. We have Brooke Davis. She's sort of superficial and rich but deep down, she is pretty okay. Peyton Sawyer, artistic girl, into music and friend to Brooke and to me." Haley smiled and realized that she didn't give much info on Nathan. She hoped he wouldn't ask but even if he did, she'd be able to give him some good qualities about him. "Hope that helps some."
Haley had finished her lunch and saw that Josh was still eating his. She had been talking his ears off and felt a little bad because we only had a certain amount of time for lunch. She stayed quiet, allowing him to eat at least some of his second sandwich that he was just now starting on. In the meantime, she just sort of watched him and was enjoying hanging out with him. Finally though, she spoke again. The question he asked wasn't a hard one to answer and she knew right away what she was going to say in return. Haley smiled at him. "Well I highly recommend Karen's Cafe. She is a great cook, very friendly and I actually work there too. Karen is my best friend's mom. She serves a lot of home cooked stuff. I eat there all the time actually." Haley said with a little laugh.

Josh listened as Haley talked or it was more like rambling actually. She was turning out to be how he thought she might be. Not only was she a respected tutor but she also worked at the cafe her best friend's mother owned. Loyalty and trustworthy were certainly in the girl's vocabulary. She also seemed to sincerely be treating JJ like he was her friend. Although he did not have much knowledge as to if she was this nice to everyone. That was something he still had to find out. "I'll have to check it out sometime."
He was almost done with his sandwich and continued to eat away at it while he thought of what else to say to or to ask her. A great conversationalist was not exactly his specialty. Josh thought back to what Haley had said about the people she had mentioned. It was interesting how she spoke about people, but he trusted her judgement to at least some extent. After all it was hard not to realize that what she said about Dan Scott was probably true. It was hard not to notice the car dealership and know who owned it. People always seemed to have the similar impressions about the guys that owned them, and it usually was not the best of impression by what he had heard. "So you bought a car from the guy's dealership?"

Haley scrunched her nose up at the thought of even considering buying a car from Dan Scott, even if she could afford it. "Uh, no. I'd never buy a car from Dan even if I could afford it." The hostility in her voice was probably easily noticed so Haley tried to tone it down a little bit. Haley sighed some. "Dan Scott is Nathan Scott's father and the father to my best friend Lucas. He abandoned him and never wanted to take responsibility for him. All in all, Dan Scott is a total ass. I don't like him at all." Haley said matter of fact like.
She realized that she probably just gave Josh more information than he ever wanted about Dan Scott and his sons but it just sort of slipped or at least had to be told to get her point across to him. Haley had a tendency to ramble and apparently today was a very good day for it. Changing the subject, she spoke again. "So yea, you should definitely come to Karen's Cafe sometime. It will be worth it. If you are looking for a job, you could ask about that too. I mean if you are interested." Haley smiled. She wasn't trying to be pushy but with Luke gone, there was a need for another bustboy or something.

It was easy to notice the hostility in Haley's voice as she spoke about Dan Scott. Her explanation helped him understand why she felt that way towards him. It also gave him some understanding of how things were in Tree Hill. His own past certainly did not seem too scandalous at the moment. At least his was rather cut and dry in comparison. Clearly Haley was also very honest about things as well given the word that she used to describe the guy. "Apparently this town has some serious drama of it's own already," he commented after he finished his sandwich.
Josh thought about what she said about possibly getting a job at the cafe. Something told him that perhaps a job would be a good distraction. At the same time though he was not sure it was that great of an idea. Especially given that his family had a tendency to move more than others. "I don't know about working there. My dad's been trying to get me to work for him." It was very much true. His father wanted him to learn about what responsibility was. Josh felt as if his father thought that the bullying and fight was all Josh's fault and no one else's. His mom and sister were a little more understanding about it to say the very least.

"Probably so. Most of it is in connection with Dan. More often than note anyway." Haley said with a little shrug of her shoulders. Honestly she didn't feel bad at all for telling Josh the honest truth in her own opinion and her own words. There was no way in the world that she was going to try to even pretend that she liked that man. If there was even a way that she could even pretend it, she still wouldn't. "Sometimes the drama is just too much. It'd be nice to know what a normal day feels like."
Haley listened to what Josh said about his trying to get a job at the cafe and she understand what he meant. So she nodded her head some. "Do you want to work for your dad? Just so you know, I wasn't trying to force you to take a job at the cafe, I was just merely letting you know that since Lucas was gone, that there was a spot. Just in case, you know?" Haley stated, hoping that she wasn't coming off as pushy or something worse. She was only just trying to help. Considering he was new to the area, getting a job, even one like at the cafe, could definitely help him get to know the town folk and make friends.

What she said about there being too much drama he figured had to do with how she had been earlier. Josh could not be too certain however. Although he knew that there was probably a lot going on in her mind that he had no clue about what so ever. "I haven't had a normal day in awhile either, it would be nice." Secretly he just hoped that his sister would stop being angry, frustrated, or however she felt towards him. He hated having his best friend feel that way about him. Josh just wanted things to be back how they were before the bullying at the last school.
"Work for my dad? No, I don't want to work for him. I think he just wants me to work for him so that he can keep better tabs on me." In general that was most likely what his old man wanted. It would be different if he had just been told that he should get a job, but instead it was suppose to be a job working under his father. Josh knew his father well enough to know that it was more than just about learning the meaning of the word responsibility. "I wouldn't mind working at the cafe, but I'm not sure how my father would react if I did." After all Josh knew that his father would just love to keep track of what he was doing every hour he spent awake over not knowing what his work schedule was like at all, if it was only to guarantee that Josh would not make a single mistake ever again in his life.

Haley listened as Josh explained to her his suspicions about his father wanting him to work for him. It sounded very feasible honestly that his father was trying to keep tabs on him but also considering she didn't know him or his family situation, there was also that option of his dad honestly just wanting him to work for him and learn the business through his dad. "Well since you know your dad better than I do, then it is highly possible that he would be trying to keep tabs on you."
Haley took several moments to look Josh over and take the look of him in. She tilted her head to the side, still looking at him with a questioning glance. "You don't appear to be a "trouble maker" or at least in my opinion. So, why would your dad want to keep so close tabs on you anyway?" It might be none of her business and he had every right to refuse to answer her question but honestly she was curious as to why his father would object to an after school job just to keep him close by making him work for him.

The time had come and Josh knew it. He had said to much and now Haley was asking the question that he did not want to answer. At the same time he did not really care for lying. Omitting the truth was one thing, but lying was another. "Your opinion varies greatly from my father's." In truth his father seemed to have no trouble with assuming the worst of him. Somehow Haley seemed to assume the best of him even though she hardly knew him. "It's complicated, but not in his eyes." Josh looked down for a few moments wondering how much more he should really tell his new friend.
As he looked back over at her he leaned in closer and lowered his voice so that hopefully only she could hear what he had to say next. "Things didn't go so well for me at the last school. I got into some trouble and my father thinks that I'm the only one at fault." He cleared his throat a little since his voice started to feel like it was giving up on him. "As far as my family's concerned I'm the one at fault for us having to move this time. That's why he wants to keep such close tabs on me. I'm the trouble maker while Jo's his little angel." Josh loved his twin sister dearly, but he hated being compared to her. Being compared to her always made him look bad if even in the slightest way. As much as they were alike they were also just that much different.

Haley just nodded her head some. "I'm sure that it does but don't the opinions of friends always differ than parent's opinions though? Or else our biggest friends would be our parents." Haley didn't quiet understand the issue that he was having with his father because she never had one like it before. Haley's parents pretty much always trusted her in whatever she did. Maybe she was spoiled in that department.
Haley watched as Josh struggled with something in his head. It was obvious that he worried about saying something in particular but she wasn't exactly sure on what that might be. Deciding to give him a break, she spoke, taking a wild guess. "You know, JJ, you don't have to tell me anything that you don't feel comfortable with me knowing. After all we have just only met." She smiled at him, hopefully making him feel less stressed about whatever was going on inside his head.
Josh all of the sudden lowered his voice to speak as he got a little closer to her. Seeing that he wanted to keep things between them, Haley leaned closer to. She listened to what he was saying., letting him finish before she decided to say anything. "Do you think it is your fault? I mean the moving to Tree Hill? Does Jo?" Haley tilted her head to the side, looking at him. "Sometimes we can't help or even stop trouble finding us. At times I guess it is our fault but other times, it's not. I don't think you are a trouble maker honestly. I am fairly good with seeing the real person and I really don't think you are."

Her questions were easy to answer in his head. Sure he was not the one solely responsible for the fights, but he had been a part of them. Maybe not all of the guys had gotten expelled, but he had. Josh had gotten expelled because he had felt a need to defend himself. Just the same that still made him the reason they had to move to Tree Hill, because he had been expelled. "Having to move to Tree Hill is my fault. No one else in my family caused for us to have to move. I was the one that got expelled."
Josh then thought about how true her statements were. True, maybe trouble had a way of finding people. He just did not know why it had to find him. "Maybe I couldn't help that it found me, but it did. In the end it did me in. I got expelled, we had to move here, end of story." Josh started to gather his things as the lunch period started to come to an end. It would only be a matter of time before the bell rang. Once the bell rang he would be free to go upon the rest of his day leaving the weight of this conversation behind him. Maybe eventually they would end up talking about it all again, but he could very well wait for that day. Until then he did not have much more to say other than casual conversation.

Haley nodded her head as she listened to Josh take the blame for his family having to move to Tree Hill. "Well just because you got expelled, doesn't necessarily make it solely your fault. I mean at least you do take the responsibility for your action and can maybe avoid it here." Haley could tell that the move and it being partly his fault, made him feel really bad. "I think things might work out for you here. It will just take some time to get into a nice, steady and comfortable groove." Haley smiled at Josh.
As he spoke once again, the tone of his voice had changed and the change wasn't for the better. Even though she was trying to make him feel a little better about things. She frowned but quickly brushed it away. As she watched him, he gathered up his things and that prompted her to check her watch. It was nearing the end of lunch time and so Haley gathered her things as well. "I didn't mean to make you feel any worse than you obviously do. I'm sorry." Haley got to her feet, grabbing her tray to dump it. "I'm sure we will talk again later. Have a good day Josh." Haley said and then turned and walked away from the new guy.

Josh listened to what Haley had to say. He was trying and hoping really hard that things would not end up repeating themselves for him here in Tree Hill. By no means did he want to have to go through being bullied again. As she went to get to her feet he felt bad. Josh did not feel as if she had a reason to apologize. Especially when they had just been talking things through. That was something that he needed no matter if he liked doing it or not. He felt like he should of at least of comforted her a little, told her that she didn't make him feel worse. Actually she had only helped him to start to put it into better perspective.
"I'll see about dropping by the cafe sometime," he told her as he was throwing out the bag that had held his lunch. It was not long after that that she had walked away. Moments later the bell sounded letting them know that they had so many minutes before the next period started. Josh walked away in the other direction in order to get to his class on time.
